Special Jurisdiction Membership
To Major Cities of Europe – IT Users Group (MCE) Members

For 37 years, Public Technology Institute (PTI) has served as the network of local governments united by a common goal: To use technology to improve the delivery of services to the citizen and to improve business practices.

PTI promotes the professional development of technology executives, practitioners and elected officials – helping them respond to the challenges facing America’s cities and counties.

PTI recognizes not all non-US cities and other jurisdictions will benefit from all the services listed – but being part of PTI is an important step in linking local government technology professionals together in an information sharing environment aimed at helping build a strong network of key contacts, best practices, and perhaps collective action.

What are the benefits of membership?

  • Solutions Awards and Innovation Labs programs highlight, on a national stage, achievements and solutions developed by PTI member governments as well as member officials. PTI also works with the press to raise awareness of technology issues and to showcase PTI member initiatives.

  • Participation in PTI Council and Forums facilitates member officials connecting with their peers and honing PTI's yearly research agenda in the areas of Sustainability (Energy and Environment), Public Safety and Homeland Security, Chief Information Officers, Web Management and E-Government, Transportation, Geospatial Information Systems, and Small Cities and Counties.

  • The annual Technology Leadership Conference and Exposition is a premiere event where you can network with your counterparts from across the country, and participate in educational programs.

  • Subscription to Technology Matters, a weekly E-mail newsletter that keeps you informed on developments in the technology world; and Inside PTI, a biweekly E-mail highlighting the latest PTI membership activities.

  • PublicTechJobs.com is a website that connects local government agencies with employment seekers interested in technology related positions. PTI members receive a discount when posting job ads and contacting candidates.

  • PublicTechNews.com is a news distribution service that can help gain coverage for your jurisdiction’s technology related announcements. (In development)

  • Discounts on authoritative PTI publications on sustainability, geospatial information systems, public safety, web management and more.

  • Discounts on registration for PTI seminars and webinars. Topics for 2008 and 2009 will explore the greening of IT, the impact technology can play in the management and delivery of health services, and the role of technology in improving government performance.

  • Annual CIO Summit is an invitation-only event that brings together member CIOs and members of PTI’s corporate partner program to dialog on the major technology issues that will impact local government in the coming year.

  • Technology Consulting Services designed to assist and support local governments, over the short or long-term, with special requests in a variety of subject areas including technology governance and strategic planning.

  • Environmental Consulting Services through the PTI-Cadmus Group Environmental Alliance, for those charged with implementing environmental regulations, mandates or ordinances. Enforcing these green initiatives can be a challenging and costly proposition, especially if it requires the additional of specialized staff.
Strategy Technology Leadership Book Series provide high-level insight on topics of importance to governments everywhere. Each book is authored by thought-leaders from within the PTI membership.

The most recent book in the series is Beyond e-Government & e-Democracy: A Global Perspective. Now in development are CIO Leadership for Cities & Counties: Emerging Trends & Practices and Health Care IT: Strategies for State and Local Government.

PTI helps local governments by:

  • Sharing solutions and practices to help local governments work more effectively,

  • Presenting educational programs that enhance the professional development of technology officials,

  • Showcasing and recognizing the innovative spirit of PTI member jurisdictions,

  • Serving as a national voice for local governments in the technology arena through its partnerships with other national associations, the government technology press, federal agencies and academic institutions,

  • Providing local governments access to leading technology companies and their proven solutions for the local government market.
Who can become a PTI member?

All municipal and county governments are eligible to become PTI members. When a jurisdiction joins PTI, all of its officials and staff have access to PTI benefits.
